Ut unum sint: Constantinople and Rome in Ruthenian Historical Narrations of the Seventeenth Century

As it is broadly known, the history of Church began to be one most potent elements in Early-modern controversial literature. Ruthenian polemical writings were not an exception; both Uniate and Orthodox authors used facts considering themselves as continuators Kyivan Christianity. Understanding historical narrative a logically consistent sequence events with implicit causal relations, this article presents analysis appearance transformation two important narrations: on Great Schism Unity Florence. Both narratives written purposes are closely connected each other. Playing names, dates, sources, early-modern intellectuals more or less skillful ways tried give overview relations between Rus, Constantinople, Rome.The medieval Byzantine Slavic traditions reliable anymore. A different attitude historiographical authorities provoked shift hierarchy quoted sources. tradition, represented by hagiographical texts Russian Chronograph, mostly authors, orthodox ones. For them proof that their own choice — Union Rome does contradict but continues faith fathers: Kyiv metropolitans pre-Mongolian era.
